NEWPORT, RI – Sam Hornblower, an award-winning broadcast journalist who spent 17 years on the CBS legendary news magazine 60 MINUTES after three years with FRONTLINE, has joined the Pell Center at Salve Regina University as an adjunct senior fellow.

A respected investigative reporter, Hornblower has a track-record of delivering compelling, under-the-radar, high impact stories that—over time—garnered him four Emmy Awards, three Peabody Awards; a duPont Columbia Silver Baton, and an Edward R. Murrow Award, among many other awards.  At the Pell Center, he will work on independent journalism projects that shine a light on contemporary challenges facing the American people.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Sam to the Pell Center,” said Executive Director Jim Ludes.  “His reporting has helped Americans understand the opioid crisis, profiteering in the defense industry, the impact of drug shortages; and the perils of fabricated scientific research, among many other critical topics.  We are excited to work with him and to support his reporting.”

“I am thrilled to join the Salve Regina University community,” Hornblower said. “The Pell Center is renowned for encouraging ground-breaking journalism at a time when the news business is facing unprecedented challenges.”

The Pell Center is a multidisciplinary research center focused at the intersection of politics, policies, and ideas.  Its other journalism related projects include “Story in the Public Square,” a six-time Telly Award winning show seen nationally on public television and heard nationally on SiriusXM’s POTUS channel, and Ocean State Stories¸ a new, project to preserve long-form print journalism in the state of Rhode Island.  Ocean State Stories won an Anthem Award in its first year of publication.  All of these initiatives are motivated by a desire to tell stories that matter.
