Pell Center to Co-Sponsor RI Press Association’s Rhode Island Journalism Day
Newport RI—The Rhode Island Press Association will host its annual High School Journalism Day this Friday, April 25. The Pell Center at Salve Regina University will co-sponsor the event, providing a virtual forum for the day’s sessions.
Rhode Island Journalism Day features a range of panel discussions, led by local journalists, for students from across Rhode Island interested in pursuing a career in the field or looking to bolster their media literacy skills. The day will kick off with an opening session, featuring the WPRI Target 12 team, who will discuss their process for investigating stories and their mission to provide the public with critical information about their community.
Subsequent sessions will include sports reporting and food writing topics, a media literacy event and “The Ins and Outs of the Business” hour, which will be offered in both English and Spanish. The day will conclude with a power session by some of the top women in Rhode Island journalism. The Rhode Island Press Association says the event grows each year, with more than 30 Rhode Island High Schools participating last year.
Students and staff are encouraged to email [email protected] or [email protected] for more information about how to participate.
