Leadership Matters

Leadership Matters

There is a popular yet dangerous myth about politics in the United States: Choices and leaders don’t really matter. Since events will inevitably unfold regardless of the public’s voice, engagement in the political process, let alone leadership, might just as well be left to others.

This is a false perception. Qualified leaders are essential to civic success. The dedication, courage and persistence of individuals are essential to accomplishing anything in public affairs. In short, leadership matters.

Although some individuals are born with instinctive leadership qualities, there are leadership skills that can be taught and learned, practiced and mastered.

“Leadership Matters,” a partnership between the Pell Center and the Public Sector Consortium, seeks to contribute to the development of public leaders in Rhode Island. The long-term goal is to provide a center of continuous leadership development that will ensure professional competencies and best practices are continually developed and refreshed.
